There is a few deferent way to formulate hair color for gray and the same formula does not work for every client fine hair is not the same as coarse or curly hair clients can have a very tight cuticle and some tend to have more layers of excess cuticle so thus type of hair is harder to cover bit with the right mixture it can be done right.
